STAUF has long supported the importance of environmental responsibility in the flooring industry, and our commitment is reflected in our partnership with the Association for the Control of Emissions in Products for Flooring Installation (GEV), founded in 1997. GEV created the EMICODE system, a reliable classification standard that assesses the emission behavior of building products to protect both consumers and the environment.

What is EMICODE?

EMICODE is a product classification system designed to help identify the emission levels of building materials, specifically those used in flooring installation. This simple yet effective guideline categorizes products based on their environmental impact, providing clear labeling for products with minimal emissions.

The Importance of EMICODE Ratings

Today, EMICODE ratings have become a key benchmark in Europe’s environmentally conscious flooring industry. Flooring installation materials that meet the EMICODE EC1 standard—"very low emission"—offer the highest level of safety in terms of indoor air quality.

Products carrying the EMICODE EC1 label are recognized for their commitment to environmental health and consumer safety. This standard is endorsed by the German Ministry for the Environment and is regarded as one of the most stringent international environmental certifications in the flooring industry. The EC1 rating is a significant step toward achieving GREEN certification, ensuring that products meet rigorous emission control requirements.
